Four-vehicle collision sends one to hospital

NEWPORT – One person was injured Thursday morning when a truck passing a line of cars triggered a four-vehicle crash on Route 7.

Angela Carsley, 44, of Newport was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital with head injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Sgt. Sanger Davis of Newport said, and her injuries were not life-threatening.

Davis said Carsley was driving a 1997 Cadillac and was northbound on Route 7 when she tried to make a left turn into Cove Side Wheel and Ski.

Gregory Thurston, 45, of Livermore began passing the line of cars, slowing down behind Carsley and struck her vehicle as she made the turn.

Thurston, driving a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, was charged with driving to endanger, Davis said. Lt. Gary Morin of Newport was assisted at the scene by Newport Police Chief James Ricker, Newport Fire and Rescue and Sebasticook Valley Hospital Ambulance.
