Bangor man faces OUI, vehicle theft charges

A Bangor man faces multiple charges after admitting Friday that he stole a car from the Main Street Shaw’s Supermarket and drove while intoxicated.

Hampden police received a report of a stolen car shortly after 10 p.m. and found the car, a green 1997 Ford Taurus, heading south on Route 1A toward Winterport.

Officers stopped the car, driven by Kevin Hill, 40, near Baker Road. Officers found beer cans in the vehicle and Hill admitted he had been drinking. He also confessed that he had taken the car without authorization.

Hill, who already had a conditional license stipulating he was not to consume alcohol, was charged with operating under the influence and unauthorized use of property. His blood alcohol was two times the legal limit, police said.

In a related incident, Bangor police arrested the man who reported the stolen 1997 Ford Taurus because he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a charge of operating after suspension.

Jeremy Lapointe, 23, of Winterport, said the car was stolen from the Shaw’s parking lot while he was inside cashing a check. The car was leased to Lapointe’s 19-year-old live-in girlfriend.

Lapointe told Officer James Dearing that he had dropped off his girlfriend at her workplace in Hampden and then went to Shaw’s. He said he left the keys in the car and went inside.

Dearing ran Lapointe’s name and found that he had an outstanding warrant. The officer issued a summons for operating after suspension.

According to the police report, Lapointe told Dearing he shouldn’t be arrested because “you didn’t see me drive.” Dearing said Lapointe’s admission that he drove his girlfriend to work was enough for him to make the arrest.

Police pulled over a silver Toyota Camry driven by Aroldo Jimenez, 24, of South Portland near Exit 2.

According to the police report, Jimenez said the car belonged to his father. The man said he had just come from Barnaby’s, which is located in the same building as the Ramada Inn.

When asked if he had been involved in an accident, Jimenez said he didn’t realize he struck another car and apologized for doing so. He admitted he had two beers but failed a field sobriety test, according to the report.

Jimenez was charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
