Police charge patient in trespassing case

A patient at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor refused to leave the hospital’s emergency room and was arrested for criminal trespassing Tuesday, police said.

According to police reports, hospital staff asked Bangor police Officer William Lawrence to escort Wayne Gregoire, 47, off the premises. Gregoire apparently had been discharged and was giving the staff a hard time, according to Lawrence.

Gregoire told hospital staff members and Lawrence that he wanted either a taxi or an ambulance to take him home. When Lawrence told him he had to leave the hospital, Gregoire refused to get up from his wheelchair. Lawrence warned him that if he did not leave immediately, he would be arrested. When Gregoire refused again, Lawrence grabbed his arm and Gregoire fell to the floor.

Gregoire again stated that he wanted an ambulance. Lawrence arrested Gregoire, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

A Brewer woman was arrested Tuesday for drunken driving after an employee at a local business reportedly saw her leave the premises intoxicated and drive away, police said.

Brewer police Officer Tony Pinette stopped Karen Rice, 42, on South Main Street in Brewer at 8:42 p.m. Rice smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Rice was arrested for operating under the influence. She refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

A 17-year-old from Sebec was arrested Wednesday for shoplifting.

The suspect, whose name could not be released, reportedly stole socks and pants from Marden’s store in Brewer, according to Brewer police Officer John Knappe.
