OLD TOWN – A 14-year-old boy faces numerous charges after police said he led them on a chase in a stolen car early Sunday through parts of Old Town and Milford.
The chase began on North Main Street in Old Town and ended about two miles later on the County Road in Milford, where the youth pulled over for the pursuing police cruiser near the road’s intersection with Henderson Lane.
The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with eluding a police officer, failure to stop for a police officer, possession of stolen property and operating a motor vehicle without a license, reported Sgt. Travis Roy of the Old Town Police Department.
The youth likely will face additional charges once authorities from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department conclude their investigation into the theft of the green 1996 Saturn, taken from a Greenfield home while the owner was away.
Officer Stephen Boyd reported seeing the Saturn being driven erratically and in a dangerous manner by Old Town High School about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, with the officer noting that the car drove over part of a snowbank. When Boyd tried to pull the car over on North Main Street, the Saturn kept going, with Boyd in pursuit. Speeds did not exceed 40 mph during the chase, according to police.
With blue flashing lights from a cruiser behind him, the teen-ager drove into Milford, turned right onto the County Road and stopped near Henderson Lane.
The owner of the car returned home later Sunday and notified authorities that his car was missing.
No apparent damage was done to the car nor did anything appear to be missing, Roy said. The youth claimed to know the car’s owner and also told police it was his first time using a standard transmission, something he was apparently proud of, authorities said.
