Lincoln nips Navigators

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Jeremy Ham pitched a four-hitter and Steve Whitney singled twice as Lincoln Lumber edged the Penquis Navigators 2-1 in Zone 1 American Legion baseball play Thursday.

Whitney singled home a run in the second inning, and singled again in the sixth when the Lumber scored the winning run on a Penquis error during a rundown between third base and home.

Penquis scored its run in the fourth inning as Eric Day doubled and scored on a double by Josh Pelletier.

Day also had a single.

Ham struck out none and walked five in outdueling James Gray of Penquis, who pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and six walks.

Bangor 25, Waldo 3

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Scott Hackett and Nick Larochelle each had a triple, double, and single as the Comrades scored in every inning.

All nine Bangor starters had at least two hits, with Alex Means adding a double and two singles, P.J. Dowe contributing three singles and winning pitcher Brian Hackett chipping in with a double and single.

Adam Maguire had a two-run double for Waldo, the home team in this contest. Nick Arthers added two singles.

Calais 11, Hampden 5

At Hampden, Josh Francis singled twice, doubled, tripled, and drove in two runs for Calais.

Russ McLean added two singles and an RBI for the Suns. James Ramsdell had a triple, a single, and an RBI.

Brian McGinley singled twice, bringing in two runs for Hampden. Dan MacLean also singled with two RBIs for the Riverdogs.

Brewer 12, Presque Isle 0

At Presque Isle, righty Corey Cushing pitched a five-hitter and Kevin McAvoy belted a grand slam as Brewer won its fifth straight.

Cushing struck out six and walked four.

Jeff Miller’s two-run double keyed a four-run second inning. Miller also had a single in the game.

Andy Otis had three singles and an RBI and McAvoy had a single to go with his grand slam.

Tim Lyford doubled for Presque Isle.

Quirk Auto Park 4, Old Town 1

At Winkin Complex in Bangor, Travis Tripp held Old Town to only two hits while he struck out 11 in the Quirk win.

Jason Harvey, Adam Sheehan, Aaron Largay, Joel Barrett, and Derec Prescott singled for Quirk Auto Park.

Joel Perry had an RBI single for Old Town.
