Strong start helps Colby capture Wiscasset race

WISCASSET – Newcastle’s Chuck Colby took advantage of a rare front row starting position and ran away with the 25- lap Limited Sportsman feature at Wiscasset Raceway Saturday night.

The race went caution free with Colby picking up his fifth win of the season. He won by over a full straightaway.

West Bath’s Nick Reno was locked in a good race with Bill Pinkham of Wiscasset over the first half of the race.

While Reno moved up to finish second, Pinkham faded over the second half to finish fifth. The previous week’s winner, Washington’s John Rideout, took third and Chelsea’s Maurice Young landed in fourth.

Beech Ridge

At Scarborough, Rick Frenette of Waterboro came back from tagging the wall on Saturday night to post his second NASCAR Pro Series victory. Frenette wrestled the lead away from former division champion Dave Oliver who finished second. Ryan Shepard, Brockie Gerry and Joey Pastore rounded out the top five.

Bullwinkle Raceway

At Greenville, Hook Lybrook of Norridgewock took the checkered flag in the big enduro feature race at Bullwinkle Raceway Saturday. He finished ahead of Dover-Foxcroft duo Ross Merrill and third-place finisher Gary Hachey.

Unity Raceway

At Unity, on Friday, Oakland’s Jeff Burgess led from the start, giving up the lead briefly to West Gardiner’s Gary Norris, Jr. on laps 21-23, en route to his second Pro Stocks win of the season. Orrington’s Kris Huff used a late restart to take runner-up honors leaving Norris to settle for third. Albion racers Dean Fuller and Matt Lee were fourth and fifth respectively.

OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY

At Oxford Saturday, Gary Drew of Otisfield regained the lead from Mickey Green on one of nine restarts, a few laps after Green had slipped around him on a restart, and he held on to win the pro stock race.

West Paris’ Green wound up second and rounding out the top five are Farmington’s Glenn Josselyn, South Paris’ Al Hammond and Richmond’s Scott Chubbuck.
