In the school year of 1992-93, I had the pleasure of having Steven Smith as my Sociology and World Problems teacher. This man was a great inspiration to me. He was a man of strong political convictions; he taught us all to stand up for what’s right. I can agree with his stance on the fingerprinting issue. Smith could talk a storm about politics and history; he also taught me what it meant to be a free thinker.
The state of Maine and Belfast Area High School are going to lose one of its most outspoken, talented and all-around teachers. I’m thankful that I had the chance to be educated by this man. The future students at Belfast are going to miss out on a great educator and person.
