BUCKSPORT – Righthander Alex Yeats threw a six-hitter, striking out four and walking one, as Bucksport blanked Coastal 2-0 in an ages 15-16 District 1 Little League Baseball tournament elimination game Sunday.

Coastal had beaten Bucksport 4-2 Saturday in the opener of the three-team, double-elimination tournament before Ellsworth beat Coastal 6-4 in the second game.

Bucksport will face Ellsworth at 5 p.m. Monday and, if Bucksport wins, there will be a 5 p.m. championship game on Tuesday.

All of the tournament games are at Bucksport.

In Sunday’s game, Bucksport scored the game’s only runs without the benefit of a hit in the fifth inning. Three walks and an infield error produced the runs.

Yeats doubled and singled for Bucksport and Louden Jellison singled twice.

Rob Haskell singled twice for Coastal and pitcher Ben Hardie struck out two and walked three while spacing five hits in a route-going performance.

On Saturday, Brian Ciomei tossed a four-hitter, striking out six and walking three, and he had an RBI single in a four-run seventh inning that erased a 2-0 deficit.

Hardie had a two-run single to key the rally.

Nick Swanson had two singles for Bucksport.

In the second game, Ellsworth managed just one hit but capitalized on 10 walks and three Coastal errors.

Rick Trombley had a two-run single in a four-run second inning that wiped out a 2-0 deficit and gave Ellsworth the lead for good.

Matt Homich went the distance for the win, allowing seven hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Lance Gail and Collin Ciomei had two singles each for Coastal.

At Millinocket Sunday, Bangor East climbed into the driver’s seat with a win over their cross-town rivals.

Brendan Moore and Dylan Harnish each singled twice for the East while Justin Scripture added a double.

For the West, Tyler LaPlante led with a double and two singles. Carl Farnham and Wyatt Frost each doubled and singled. Josh Landry hit an RBI double.

At Millinocket Sunday, Tyler White struck out 12 batters and pitched a five-hitter to lead Brewer to the elimination game victory.

Brewer had only two hits (singles by Ian Forrest and Tyler White), but took advantage of 15 walks and one hit batter.

Mark Proulx and Dylan Cyr singled twice for Holbrook. Shawn Curran singled in a run.

At Millinocket Sunday, Dean Watson pitched a three-hitter and his teammates backed him with a 10-hit attack to eliminate Katahdin.

Tyler Fournier hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the second and singled for Hermon. William Perkins doubled and singled. Kevin Frederick had two singles and Derek Archer doubled.

J.J. Conary tripled and Brandon Landry had an RBI single for Katahdin.

Ryan McClesky and Zach Frish both had two singles for Hampden and Greg O’Donell doubled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Tyler Miles tossed a five-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one, and Brennan Perry squeezed home Ethan Jean in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Jean had reached on an error and stolen second and third.

Nolan Turner had an RBI single for Hampden, the winners’ only hit off Jon Gagnon.

Gagnon struck out 11 and walked two. Both runs off him were unearned.

Tim Kennerson had two singles for Glenburn and Derik Helms had an RBI single.

At Hampden, righthander Michelle Wells threw a six-hitter, striking out 10 and walking four, and Hampden capitalized on 16 walks to win the District 3 championship and a berth in the state tourney in two weeks in Biddeford.

Wells and Eva Shannon had two singles apiece for the winners and Kasey Belcher’s run-scoring fielder’s choice in the sixth broke a 4-4 tie and gave Hampden the lead for good.

Ashley Goodwin had two singles for Old Town and Jenna Winegardner had a two-run single.
