Festival-goer accused of taking illicit photos

ROCKLAND – Police say a Rockland man was more interested in “blue” photos than in the music at the weekend’s North Atlantic Blues Festival.

A man was arrested when officers saw him aiming his cell phone digital camera under the dresses of unsuspecting women, Rockland police Deputy Chief Wallace Tower said Monday.

Lance Merritt, 33, of Rockland was charged with violation of privacy and resisting arrest, Tower said.

Officers at the festival grounds on the city’s waterfront on Sunday reported observing Merritt walking behind women, holding the camera under their dresses.

“The women had no idea this was going on,” Tower said.

When police took Merritt into custody, he would not let them seize the camera, he said, which resulted in the resisting-arrest charge.

Police are requesting a search warrant to get the digital images they believe are in the camera.
