Airplane pilot unhurt after Saco River crash

FRYEBURG – A pilot who took off from Laconia, N.H., was unhurt when his light plane crashed into the Saco River at around 11 a.m. Friday, state police said.

The pilot, Paul Harris of Wolfeboro, N.H., was flying alone, authorities said.

Harris walked from the crash site to the nearby Indian River campground to call authorities, leaving the plane upside-down in the river, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Fryeburg police were securing the crash site until a Federal Aviation Administration investigator arrived on the scene.
