Waldoboro woman pleads not guilty in husband’s slaying

WISCASSET – A Waldoboro woman has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge stemming from the June 4 stabbing death of her husband.

Amy Dugas, 35, also denied assaulting a police officer and violating conditions of release from a prior assault charge involving her late husband, Mark Dugas.

She was arraigned Monday in Lincoln County Superior Court.

On June 4, Maine State Police and Waldoboro police went to the couple’s Route 32 home and discovered Mark Dugas, 39, dead on the doorstep of a neighbor’s house.

Police say Amy Dugas had been drinking before the incident, and alcohol consumption was prohibited by her conditions of release in the February assault against her husband.

During her arrest on the night of the slaying, Dugas allegedly bit a state trooper, leaving teeth marks on his knuckle.

Earlier this month, a special grand jury indicted Dugas for murder, assault on an officer and violation of conditions of release, to all of which she pleaded not guilty.

No additional court date had been set in the case, a court clerk said Tuesday.

Dugas remained in Cumberland County Jail in Portland on Tuesday, unable to post $250,000 single-surety or $125,000 cash bail, according to a Lincoln County jail officer.

Should Dugas make bail, she is to have no contact with her 71/2-year-old son, who was at home the night of the slaying.
