Dance, pie-making contest to mark fair day

ORRINGTON – The Curran Homestead on Fields Pond Road in Orrington is the place to be Saturday and Sunday, July 24-25, if you have a yen to travel back in time to visit an Olde Fashioned Country Fair Day.

The schedule is:

Saturday

. Homestead tour with Wayne Killam; and old fashioned games and crafts for children, 11 a.m.

. Model T rides with the Geezers Wheezers, 11:30 a.m.

. Living history storytelling with Carroll Adams, president of the Curran Homestead.

. Barbecue, noon- 2p.m. Meet chef Paul Shumaker. Eat under the tent to music of Jerry Hughes and The Late Edition. $6, $3 children under 12.

. Barn tour with Vicki Wilson, 1-4 p.m.

. Dress up in old fashioned costumes for a photo, 1-4 p.m. Gail Sumner, photographer. Photos $3 each.

. Horseshoe pitching contests, 1:30 p.m.

. Living history storytelling, 2 p.m.

. Homemade pie contest, 2-4 p.m.

. Pie contest winners announced, 4 p.m.

. Silent and live auctions, 4:15 p.m. Irv Marsters, auctioneer.

. Old fashioned baked bean supper, 5-6 p.m. $6, $3 children under 12.

. Second annual barn dance for all ages, 6:30-8 p.m.

Sunday

. Tour of the homestead, 11 a.m.

. Making homemade butter, 11:30 p.m.

. Barbecue, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Meet chef Paul Shumaker. Eat under the tent to music of Blue Country. Band members are Billy Orcutt, Alan Sockabasin, Jim Leighton, Joyce Somers and Scott Bates.

. Dress up in old fashioned costumes for a photo, noon. Karen Marsters, photographer. Photos $3 each.

. Homestead tour, 1:30 p.m.

. Old fashioned games and crafts for children, 1:30p.m.

. Farm closes, 3 p.m.
