Woman hurt in crash leaves Bangor hospital

BANGOR – The driver of a vehicle that veered head-on into an oncoming tractor-trailer in Ellsworth was released from Eastern Maine Medical Center on Wednesday.

April Hatch, 25, of Clifton is no longer a patient at Eastern Maine Medical Center, a hospital official said Wednesday. Hatch was the driver of a 1999 Ford that collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 1A on June 22. In the car were Hatch’s two daughters, Ashlynn, 2, and Raven, 3. Ashlynn died the next day from injuries she suffered during the accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Ronnie Makamson, 46, of Maben, Miss., was treated at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth after the accident. He was released later that day.

Police officials have previously stated that they suspected Hatch fell asleep at the wheel after working an all-night shift at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth.
