BANGOR – Police are looking for the public’s help in solving a spate of attempted burglaries at local convenience stores this week.
At least four burglaries were attempted Tuesday and Wednesday at stores in Bradford, Glenburn, Greenbush and Hudson, according to Rick Canarr, an investigator with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
All of the stores were closed at the time of the incidents. At least two of the burglaries were perpetrated by two young men in their late teens to early 20s who were caught on surveillance tape, Canarr said Friday.
The Bradford General Store was burglarized of cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets sometime after midnight Tuesday, Canarr said. The suspects left behind some personal items at the Route 221 store, he said.
“We do have a suspect vehicle,” which appeared on a surveillance tape to be a four-door Pontiac Grand Prix, Canarr said.
Hours later on Tuesday morning, two young men were caught on tape trying to burglarize the Checkout Market on Pushaw Road in Glenburn. The men were scared off by an alarm and ran down the road as cars drove by at about 4:40 a.m., Canarr said.
“We definitely have suspects,” he said.
Police would like to speak with any passers-by who were on Pushaw Road Tuesday morning who may have seen the men, he said.
Two other burglaries were attempted Tuesday and Wednesday in Greenbush and Hudson and may be related, Canarr said.
The two young men have told others about the burglaries and police hope the public can provide more information, he said.
“Our suspects are talking,” Canarr said.
Anyone with information about the Checkout Market incident is asked to contact Detective Robert Jordan at 262-2165.
To provide information about the other burglaries, call the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department at 947-4585.
