UMaine names Teehs head volleyball coach

Lynn Teehs has been hired as the volleyball coach at the University of Maine.

Teehs, who had been the head coach at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania the past 10 seasons, accepted the job Friday.

Teehs led her teams to nine NCAA Division II tourney appearances and four Elite Eights.

“Lynn is a great addition to our university,” said UMaine athletic director Patrick Nero. “She brings tremendous skills to our volleyball program, not only as a very successful coach but also as an educator and leader.

“Coaching is a critical part of our program and we believe that in Lynn we have found an outstanding coach,” he added.

At Edinboro, Teehs was named Conference Coach of the Year five times. The team has won four conference championships along with four NCAA Division I Atlantic Regional championships. She compiled a 236-111 record at Edinboro and has a 264-158 overall career mark in 12 seasons of head coaching.

“I am very excited to join the staff of the University of Maine,” Teehs said. “The volleyball program has been well established and I am anxious to help it grow.”

Teehs is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where she was a volleyball standout. She began her head coaching career at the school before taking the assistant coaching job at Northern Michigan University, which won the 1993 NCAA Division II National Championship.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to being a Black Bear,” said Teehs.

In addition to her coaching duties, Teehs is a member of the NCAA Division II Coaches Committee and serves as an AVCA National poll voter. Her experience also includes a stint as senior women’s administrator at Edinboro.
