SACO – Police are investigating an accident in which a California man was killed when he collided with a tractor-trailer while riding his bicycle on Route 1.

Peter Melvin Snow, 51, of Sierra Madre, Calif., died instantly in the crash Wednesday afternoon, Saco police Cpl. Daniel Beaulieu said.

Beaulieu said Snow, an avid bicyclist, was staying at a family-owned cottage in the Ocean Park area of Old Orchard Beach and called family members in Springfield, Mass., every day after he completed his bike ride.

When he didn’t call Wednesday, family members called Old Orchard Beach police, who then contacted Saco police.
