GARLAND – A local man was killed Tuesday evening when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle and ran off the road.
Robert C. Leavitt Sr., 64, was driving his motorcycle along the Oliver Hill Road when his 1982 Honda ran into a roadside tree, according to Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy Sean McCue. No other vehicles were involved.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m.
Leavitt was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, where he died approximately two hours later, McCue said. Leavitt was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.
The Sheriff’s Department was still investigating the cause of the accident Wednesday. McCue said speed did not appear to be a factor.
The accident occurred next to a turn in the road, but McCue said that the turn did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
