Shead High is about a week away from naming a new girls basketball coach, but there are at least two staff changes in athletics at the Eastport school.
Paul Theriault, who has served as the school’s dean of students and as a social studies teacher, is now the athletic director.
And because of that move – as well as Theriault’s decision to focus on a master’s degree program – the school has a new cross country coach as Matt Vincent will take over that position.
Theriault is replacing physical education teacher Bob Davis, who served as the AD for more than 15 years and was also a longtime girls basketball coach at the school.
“I’ll have to try to fill his shoes,” Theriault said with a laugh.
Davis resigned from his second stint as the girls coach at the end of last season. Theriault said the school is about a week away from naming a new coach.
Theriault, who was the Tigers’ cross country coach for two years, stepped aside to focus on gaining his master’s degree. The school hired Vincent, who is also the softball coach and is the town’s chief of police.

She was also a member of the Indians basketball team that was the Eastern Maine Class A runner-up at the 2004 tourney.
