Tractor-trailer overturns in Bangor

A tractor-trailer that overturned on Outer Hammond Street in Bangor on Wednesday afternoon caused traffic to back up for nearly three hours.

Harmail Singh, 41, of LaSalle, Quebec, was turning out of a driveway onto Outer Hammond Street at 1:30 p.m. when his vehicle’s trailer rolled into a ditch, according to Officer Michael Brennan. The trailer’s load shifted and caused the entire vehicle to roll onto its side, he said.

Singh was treated for back pain at Eastern Maine Medical Center and then released Wednesday.

Brennan estimated the damage to the vehicle, which was towed from the northbound lane at 4:15 p.m., at $5,000 to $7,000.

Bangor firefighters blocked off three streets Wednesday night as they tended to a propane leak at an Ohio Street residence.

A rusted seam allowed an undetermined amount of propane to leak from a 100-pound cylinder at 151 Ohio St., according to Assistant Bangor Fire Chief Darrell Cyr. The residence and a house next door were evacuated at 8 p.m., he said.

Police blocked off Tyler Avenue and Court and Ohio streets for about an hour Wednesday as firefighters emptied the cylinder.

An employee of the Bangor Mall Filene’s was summoned for stealing from the department store after she punched out from work Tuesday afternoon.

Kristen Hart, 19, of Glenburn was caught on videotape taking a wallet from the men’s department where she works, and hiding its box under a rack of dress coats. Hart then allegedly put the wallet under her arm, punched out on the time clock, and left the store, according to police reports.

Another employee of the store approached Hart in the parking lot, and Hart allegedly said she forgot to pay for the $10 wallet. She was summoned for theft.
