Katahdin High School, Stacyville
STACYVILLE – Graduation exercises will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Katahdin High School gymnasium. Class night will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the gym.
Joanna Heath, daughter of Stephen and Rhoda Heath of Stacyville, is valedictorian of the Class of 2001 at Katahdin High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and student council, a member of the French Club and took part in Cougarfest all four years. She sang in chorus four years and was chosen All-Aroostook two years. She is active in church, including vacation Bible school, church nursery, junior church and youth group. She will attend Gordon College, Wenham, Mass., to study computer science.
Salutatorian is Sylvia Hayden, daughter of Beth Anna and Dana Carver of Patten. She was a member of the student council, National Honor Society and was vice president of NHS for three years. She served as manager for soccer and basketball teams and was a member of the French Club for three years. She took part in Cougarfest four years. She represented KHS at Dirigo Girls State. She has been a dance teacher two years and worked at Vacationland Estates. She is active in vacation Bible school and as a Team Kid. She will attend Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Mass., to study dental hygiene.

Zachary Alexander, son of David and Gloreen Alexander of Patten. He will attend Gordon College to study mathematics.
Timothy Perry, son of Frank and Deena Perry of Sherman Mills. He will attend Husson College to study accounting.
Elijah Arbo, son of Dawn and Michael Arbo of Patten. He will attend Maine Maritime Academy to study marine engineering.
Amanda Guiggey, daughter of Carol and Dicky McNally of Sherman Station and Alonzo and Angela Guiggey of Sherman Mills. She will attend Thomas College to study business management.
R. Dustin Cyr, son of Rick and Jeannine Cyr of Moro. He will attend Maine Maritime Academy to study marine engineering.
Randy Tower, son of Barry and Karla Tower of Patten. He will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study psychology.
Carson Kelley, son of Stuart and Rebecca Kelley. He will attend Maine Maritime Academy to study engineering.
Lindsay Duffy-Stanley, daughter of Reid and Cathy Stanley. She will attend Husson College to study business administration.
Fort Kent Community High School FORT KENT – Graduation exercises will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Fort Kent Community High School gymnasium.
Honor parts for the Class of 2001 include valedictorian Richard Raymond, son of Richard and Linda Raymond of Fort Kent, salutatorian Danielle Harvey, daughter of Gary and Louise Harvey of Fort Kent, and honor essayist Erika Cyr, daughter of Paul and Bonnie Cyr of Fort Kent.
Raymond took part in tennis and basketball and earned a varsity letter in tennis. He was a member of the band for three years and is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Travel Club. He won the Rensselaer Medal, Maine Principals’ Association Award, Maine Scholars Achievement Award and attended Dirigo Boys State last summer. He may attend Colby College or Bates College to study biology or the University of Maine to study chemical engineering.
Harvey took part in varsity soccer for three years and varsity basketball for four years, earning letters in each. She received the University of Maine Scholars Achievement Award and the Dewey Dewitt Academic Athletic Award and maintained highest honors all four years. She attended Dirigo Girls State and Introduction to Engineering for Gifted High School Juniors and is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and Varsity Club. She will attend the University of Maine, Orono, to study chemical engineering.
Cyr was a member of the ski team and a varsity letter winner all four years. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, student council, Varsity Club and Peer Awareness Committee. She maintained highest honors for four years and won a scholarship at Bates College, where she will study biology.
Southern Aroostook Community School, Dyer Brook
DYER BROOK – Clark Rafford, principal of Southern Aroostook Community School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2001. Graduation exercises will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the SACS gymnasium.
Kara Dickinson is valedictorian. She is the daughter of Peter and Beverly Dickinson of Oakfield. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Dollars for Scholars and Varsity Club. She has been class president and was active in varsity soccer and varsity basketball as captain in both. She attended Dirigo Girls State and was chosen Student of the Quarter and Student of the Year in 1999. She received the 2000 Maine Scholars Achievement Award and the 2001 Principal’s Award with a $1,000 scholarship. She was awarded the Volunteer Service Scholarship and received a waiver toward college education from Irving O. Bragg Trustee Tuition. She will attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study accounting.
Joseph St. Pierre, son of Daniel and Anne St. Pierre of Merrill, is salutatorian. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was president of the NHS during his senior year. He was chosen Student of the Quarter and was a Boys State delegate in 2000. He was active in chess, where he was a Maine Scholastic champion. He was involved in the Katahdin Chess Club and has been a tutor to other students. He was accepted to the World Scholar-Athlete Games. He has played varsity soccer, volleyball and is a member of Dollars for Scholars, the student council, where he is vice president, and the French Club. He also is a member of the Explorers and has worked on the food collection and been a volunteer for a battered women’s shelter. He also has volunteered for the Red Cross blood drive. He will attend the University of Maine, Orono, to study computer and electrical engineering.
Andrew James Anderson, son of Vernon and Rebecca Anderson of Crystal, is First Honor Essayist. He is a member of the National Honor Society, an Eagle Scout and was chosen Student of the Quarter. He volunteered to build the Island Falls playground and has been a member of the Forestry Program through Maine Applied Technology. He will work with his father in the family business, Anderson Family Tree Farms Inc., and hopes to own his own business and equipment.
Karla Brannen, daughter of Kevin and Kristi Brannen of Smyrna Mills, is Second Honor Essayist. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Close Up, Varsity Club, Dollars for Scholars, and has taken part in the Upward Bound program.
She is editor of the yearbook and has taken part in varsity girls soccer and managed the varsity girls softball team. She is a member of Drug Awareness Resistance Team and of Improving America’s Schools Act. She received the Maine Scholars Achievement Award. She will attend Thomas College to study accounting.
