Stearns prevails in 2OT Foxcroft, Lynx collect victories

MILLINOCKET – Seth Warman recovered a fumble in the end zone in the second overtime to give the Stearns Minutemen a 26-20 high school football victory over the Dexter Tigers Friday night.

Matt Wark ran 57 yards to score the first touchdown for Stearns but left the game soon after with an Achilles injury.

Rick Kaul had a fumble recovery, a sack, eight tackles and ran 38 yards to score a touchdown for the Minutemen. George Surrette had 11 tackles and scored a touchdown in the third quarter on a 81-yard kickoff return. Ryan Bouchard ran 69 yards on 25 carries and had 14 tackles.

Billy Greene had 28 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown for Dexter and Eric Day completed 7 of 22 passes for 100 yards and had a touchdown pass. Mark Pullen ran in a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown and caught a Day pass for another touchdown.

Foxcroft Academy 33, Orono 6

At Orono, senior tailback Bobby Gilbert rushed 17 times for 231 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead Foxcroft Academy to the victory.

Gilbert, who totaled 217 rushing yards in last week’s victory, ran for touchdowns of 45, 2, 50, 30, and 13 yards.

Chad Sanborn had 11 tackles for Orono and Mo Nazmy had 10 carries for 46 yards.

Morse 2, Old Town 0

At Old Town, a blocked punt on fourth down at Old Town’s 7-yard line bounced out of the back of the end zone in the second quarter to give Morse of Bath a safety and provide the game’s only points.

Shawn Perkins gained 83 yards on 18 carries and Rick Alexander had 70 on 14 for the Shipbuilders. Perkins also had 11 total tackles.

Old Town’s Jarrett Lukas completed seven of 14 passes for 70 yards and no interceptions. Brad Perry gained 60 yards on 16 carries and Travis Shaw had four catches for 27 yards. Tyler Eastman led with eight tackles and Chris Cooney recovered two fumbles as the Indians forced five Morse turnovers.

Bucksport 35, Rockland 6

At Rockland, Nick Tymoczko ran 208 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Buckport past Rockland. Tymoczko scored on runs of 5, 14, and 11 yards.

John Harvey rushed eight times for 84 yards and scored two touchdowns for Bucksport on runs of 12 and 18 yards.

Chris Sawyer had six carries for 41 yards and scored a 1-yard touchdown with eight seconds left in the first quarter for Rockland. Andrew Weiss completed seven of 18 passes for 65 yards.

Belfast 28, Leavitt 26

At Turner Center, Garren Horne’s 59-yard touchdown run with 6:10 left, his second of the game, enabled the defending state Class B champion Lions to rally past Leavitt.

Matt Cote’s 6-yard touchdown run and Chris Brewer’s 3-yard scamper had erased a 22-12 deficit earlier in the fourth quarter for Leavitt.

Leavitt had jumped out to a 12-0 lead on Tony Witham’s 4-yard run in the first quarter and Cote’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Broc Hardacker in the second period.

But Aldus ran 16 yards for a TD in the third quarter and the Lions took a 14-12 lead later in the period on Horne’s 40-yard run and Andy Whalen’s two-point conversion pass to Josh Gallant.

Aldus’ 9-yard run early in the fourth quarter and his conversion dash extended the lead to 22-12.

Mattanawcook 55, MCI 20

At Pittsfield, Duncan Markie scored two touchdowns on runs of 73 and 52 yards to help lead the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx of Lincoln past Maine Central Institute.

Jason Murchison racked up a touchdown and 67 yards rushing, Mackenzie Haines scored one touchdown and one two-point conversion en route to 61 yards, and Dustin Hanscom had a touchdown, a 2-point conversion pass, and 43 yards rushing.

Marty Quint caught 10 passes for a touchdown and 133 yards. Wes Gagne gained 68 yards rushing and ran for two touchdowns for the MCI Huskies.
