Jones, Plummer head Tri-State golf team

Ricky Jones and Mark Plummer head the Maine golf contingent which will battle New Hampshire and Vermont in the 66th Tri-State Championship at Plummer’s home course, Augusta Country Club in Manchester, this weekend.

Jones has won the last two Maine Amateurs and Plummer is a 13-time winner of that title as well as the reigning State of Maine Championship titlist.

The Tri-State teams from each state are made up of the 10 best players overall plus four top seniors.

Eight of Maine’s players are determined by the season-long accumulation of points in Maine State Golf Association events. The other two are selected by the eight team members.

Jones is the points leader and will be joined by fellow Rockland Golf Club member Jeff Wass, Keith Patterson of Biddeford-Saco, Maine Amateur runner-up Cash Wiseman of Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland, Ben Daughan of York Golf and Tennis Club, Jason Gall of Augusta Country Club, Nate Nealey of Gorham Country Club, and Marc Siewertsen of Willowdale Golf Course in Scarborough. Plummer was one of the team picks and the other is Scott Dewitt of Biddeford-Saco.

The senior members are Maine Senior champ Paul Pelletier of Martindale Country Club in Auburn, Ron Brown of Portland Country Club in Falmouth Foreside, Alan Bouchard of The Woodlands in Falmouth, and James Quinn of Augusta.

Saturday’s matches are alternate-shot format and Sunday’s are individual matches against the same-seed players from the other two teams.

New Hampshire has won 38 times, Maine 16, and Vermont 11.
