The first day of autumn is still a week away, but basketball season beckons those who might be interested in trying out the whistle.

The Eastern Maine Board of Approved Basketball Officials will hold its annual school for prospective officials beginning at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Bangor YMCA on Hammond St. in Bangor.

The Northern Maine Board of Approved Basketball Officials will hold a similar class beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at Room 411 of Presque Isle High School. More information on this class is available from Harry Orser at 425-4451.
