Local cyclists earn spots at National Senior Games

KENNEBUNK – Marcel Bastide of Orrington and Todd Burpee of Bucksport earned invitations to the National Senior Games next June in Pittsburgh after winning their age group time trials and races in the cycling competitions at the Maine Senior games Sept. 11-12.

Bastide, 60, won both the 5 km and 10 km time trials as well as the 20 and 40 km races to earn his second straight nationals trip. Last June in Virginia, he took a gold medal in the 20 km race and a bronze in the 10 km time trial. Bastide had the best time overall in the 40 km race at the Maine games, the third set he has participated in.

Burpee, 54, also won both of his time trials and races and was first overall in both time trials and the 20 km race at the Maine Games, the first he has participated in.
