McLaughlin RBI powers Witches

HAMPDEN – Emily McLaughlin’s single in the seventh inning scored Katie Reed as the Brewer softball team came from behind to edge Hampden Academy 4-3 Friday in high school action.

Katie Freeman had two singles for the Witches and Sherri Capponi doubled in two runs during the four-run Brewer seventh. Capponi scattered six hits to pick up the win.

Emmy Russell led Hampden with a double, single and two RBIs while Jamie Wells singled twice.

At Milo, Kristina MacKenzie scattered five hits for the win while aiding her own cause with two singles and two RBIs for the Minutemen of Millinocket.

Becca Saucier chipped in with a triple and two singles for Stearns and Jordan Legassey singled twice and drove in a run.

Senior Lil Gerrish turned in a fine game for the Patriots during Senior Night with a double, two singles and two RBIs. Arielle Sickler chipped in with an RBI double.

At Winslow, righthander Morgan Campbell scattered six hits while striking out eight and not walking a batter for the Lions.

Melissa Gray chipped in with two singles for the winners, Jen Jackson added an RBI single and Sara Flagg drove in a run.

Jamie Morin tripled and singled twice for the Black Raiders.

At Howland, Lacie Hanscome’s two-run double, Stephanie Wentworth’s run-scoring single and Catherine Riitano’s sacrifice fly sparked a five-run seventh-inning rally that erased a 7-5 deficit and lifted the Pirates of Guilford.

Greta Korsman (two RBIs), Karolanne Emery and Megan Galuski had three singles each for Piscataquis. Wentworth (two RBIs) and Ivy Galuski each contributed a double and a single. Korsman picked up the win with two innings of two-hit shutout relief.

Erika Coyle (two RBIs), Michelle Batchelder (one RBI), Sharon Drost and Nancy Hallett had two singles each for the Howlers.

At Bar Harbor, Jessi Mayo had a triple and a single and drove in two runs to lead the Trojans past the Ponies.

Kate Joseph singled twice and had two RBIs and Becca Goff singled twice for Mount Desert Island.

Leight Cartwright had a double, single and two runs batted in and Katie White had a pair of singles for Foxcroft Academy.

At Blue Hill, the Eagles jumped out to an 11-run lead in the fourth en route to the win over the Vikings.

Nikki Keniston had two home runs and drove in six runs, Denise Erland homered, singled and had five RBIs and Jamie Wood doubled twice and drove in two runs for George Stevens Academy.

Tina Barton had a triple, double and three RBIs for Searsport. Chelsea Herrick singled and drove in two runs.

At Milo, Ian Johnson hurled a one-hitter, walked one and struck out eight – including three in the fifth inning – and the Minutemen pounded out 14 hits en route to the win.

Johnson also hit an RBI double for Stearns of Millinocket. Brad Wheaton hit two doubles and drove in three runs. Jason Cummings tripled, doubled twice and added an RBI, while Nick Beaulieu hit two doubles, a single and knocked in two runs.

Levi Ladd paced the Patriots with a double in the first that plated Steve Kissell, who had walked.

At Thorndike, righthander Chris Carman struck out eight while allowing only four hits and two walks to spark the Mustangs past the Huskies of Pittsfield.

Ryan Harnden singled twice and scored three runs for the winners. Carman aided his own cause with an RBI single.

Jake Laselle and Joe Bell each doubled for Maine Central Institute.

At Howland, senior righthander Buddy Leavitt hurled a five-inning one-hitter and Shane Priest belted a three-run homer in the six-run second inning to power the Pirates.

Leavitt struck out five and walked two. Randy Burgess had three singles and an RBI for Piscataquis of Guilford. Ben Smith hit a two-run triple and Leavitt and Dennis Glynn had two singles apiece. Leavitt added an RBI.

Jody Thompson singled for the Howlers in his first varsity start.

At Bar Harbor, Basil Mahaney scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a two-out Foxcroft Academy error.

Mahaney had a double, single and two RBIs. Chris Reed doubled and singled and had an RBI. Gabe Westphal had a pair of singles and an RBI for the Trojans.

Seth Gabano singled three times and drove in two runs for the Ponies. Danny White had two singles and two RBIs.

At Winslow, Devin Potvin’s three-run double keyed a six-run second inning as the Lions beat the Black Raiders.

Ben Cowan, Kevin Herbig and Nick Arthers had two singles apiece for Belfast.

Wes Zemrack led Winslow with a home run and a single.

At Newcastle, the Windjammers outhit the Eagles 12-3 en route to the win.

Tom Dennen led the Camden Hills offense with a double, single and three RBIs. Will Dennen singled twice, drove in two runs and pitched the win. Brady Butler knocked in two runs on a double and a single. Brian Fitzpatrick and Abe Dugal singled twice and added an RBI apiece.

Steve Hannah, Ben Buckland and Billy Pierce each singled once for Lincoln Academy.

At Blue Hill, Travis Mercier’s two-out double in the top of the eighth inning drove in Pasco Grove and Ben Relyea as the Vikings handed the Eagles their first loss of the year.

Grove had a double and three singles for Searsport.

Mark Clapp had a double, single and an RBI and Jake Lowell singled twice and drove in a run for George Stevens.

At Lincoln, freshman Wayne Berry fanned 11 and walked one in a two-hitter, his first high school win, en route to a victory for the Lynx.

Matt Malone and Mike Springer each doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Mattanawcook. Andrew Kites hit a double, a single and added an RBI. Andrew Weatherbee hit two singles.

Brad Hebert and Jared Disantis hit back-to-back singles in the second inning for the Wolverines of East Millinocket.

At Corinth, Gene Speaker doubled and Jason Shorey drove him in on a triple in the fourth en route to a victory for the Hawks.

Hermon’s Ryan Garland scattered five hits, struck out 13 and walked one for the win. Speaker added a single and two RBIs, and Shorey also singled. Ron Lane hit three singles and drove in a run.

James Gray led the Red Devils with an RBI triple, and Billy Kane hit an RBI single.

At Harrington, Gabe Stewart’s three-run homer, Andrew Checker’s two-run double and Mike Beal’s run-scoring double highlighted an eight-run fourth-inning rally that broke the game open for the Knights.

Jason Snider had two single and Gabe Checker, Andrew’s brother, scattered seven hits and four runs over five innings for the win. He struck out two and didn’t walk anybody.

Cliff Urquhart’s solo homer and Gerald Holmes’ two singles sparked the Tigers of Eastport.

At Fort Kent, J.J. Pinette had two singles and four runs batted in as the Warriors downed the Pioneers.

Corey Bourgoin had three singles, while Lance Morin and Jared Boucher had two singles apiece for Fort Kent.

Brad Picard homered and singled and Aaron Gervais singled twice for Wisdom of St. Agathe.

At Hodgdon, Matt Day smacked a solo homer to lead off the four-run fourth as the Hawks held off the Hornets for their 12th win.

Derek Nickerson knocked in two runs on a double and a single for Hodgdon. Chris Stewart doubled and singled. Three Hawks pitchers scattered three hits.

Eric Ham hit an RBI double for Ashland. Bruce Oakes and Alan Hitchcock added a single apiece.

At Machias, Todd Stevens’ run-scoring single, his fifth of the game, enabled Machias to avenge an earlier loss at East Machias.

Will Hasselmann and Kevin Loughlin had singled to open the inning and set the stage for Stevens’ game-winner. Loughlin had a homer and four singles; Hasselmann singled three times and Jeff Copp and Matt Cobb each singled twice.

Ryan Maker had a solo homer, a game-tying RBI double in the seventh and a single for the Raiders of East Machias. Adam Demarest, Brent Colbeth and Mike Franz had two base hits apiece.
