ATHENS, Greece – Tom Brown of Northeast Harbor captured the silver medal in the 2.4-meter sailing class during the Paralympic Games Thursday.
The finish is based on competition over the last several days and Brown entered the final day tied for first place with Damien Seguin of France. However, after battling Sequin bow-to-bow to the second marker, Brown dropped to 10th place where he would eventually finish the race.
Sequin finished third in the race to secure the gold medal. Thierry Schmitter of The Netherlands won the bronze.
“I’m happy,” said Brown, who won the bronze medal at the Sydney Games. “Being so close you’re all revved up and you’re right there and have a shot to win. I just feel bad that I didn’t really put it on today. I feel bad I didn’t give him a race.”
Brown was the only repeat medalist from the 2000 Games.
“I did move up a little bit, so I don’t feel too back about that,” Brown said. “But moving up a little bit every four years – that could take a long time.”
