Markie powers Lynx by Bears for 4th win

READFIELD – Duncan Markie rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 66 yards for another score as Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln remained undefeated in LTC Class C play with a 27-0 victory over the Maranacook Black Bears.

The 4-0 Lynx jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead as Dylan Hanscom hit Corey Drost with a 6-yard scoring pass and Markie scored on a 7-yard run.

Mattanawcook added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Shey Gardner hit Isaac Young with a 13-yard TD pass, and Markie scored on his interception return.

Young made two pass receptions for 27 yards for the Lynx, who play at 3-1 Foxcroft Academy Friday night.

York 33, Belfast 6

At York, the host Wildcats spotted Belfast a Josh Aldus touchdown and shut out the Lions the rest of the way in a midseason battle of Class B unbeatens.

Aldus scored on a 20-yard run to give Belfast a 6-0 lead, but Stacy Bradburn scored three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Erik Rostad rushed for one touchdown and passed for another as York improved its record to 4-0 in Western B.

Aldus finished with 124 rushing yards for 3-1 Belfast, which plays host to unbeaten Brewer on Friday night in a key Pine Tree Conference Class B clash.

At Winslow, Stephen Siviski rushed for a touchdown, returned an interception for a score and threw a pair of TD passes as the Black Raiders rolled to victory.

Josh McLean also returned an interception for a touchdown as Winslow built a 42-0 halftime lead.

Madison 34, Dirigo-Buckfield 6

At Buckfield, Woody Noyes rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Madison earned its second win of the season.

Noyes scored on a 3-yard run to give the Bulldogs a 7-6 halftime lead, and Madison outscored Dirigo-Buckfield 27-0 after intermission.

Bryan Mann also rushed for a touchdown for Madison, while Ryan Carpenter rushed for one score and passed to Russell Berry for another touchdown.

Brewer 22, Morse 21

At Bath on Friday night, Kevin McAvoy threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Peasley with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter and then rushed for the two-point conversion as the undefeated Witches rallied for the victory.

Morse of Bath (1-3) had taken a 21-15 lead just minute earlier, but Brewer scored in just three plays, including a 16-yard halfback option pass from McAvoy to quarterback Ricky Porter.

Brewer (4-0) limited the Shipbuilders to 46 yards while taking a 7-0 halftime lead on a rushing TD by Porter.

Morse capitalized on a Brewer fumble of the second-half kickoff to score its first touchdown, and trailed just 14-13 entering the final quarter.

Brewer finished with 358 yards of total offense, including 257 rushing yards. Porter rushed for 122 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.

The Witches limited Morse to 56 rushing yards on 32 carries, but the Shipbuilders did complete 10 of 25 passes for 183 yards.

Orono 40, MCI 0

At Pittsfield on Friday night, the Orono Red Riots amassed 526 total yards against Maine Central Institute in improving their record to 3-1 on the season.

Mo Nazmy rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, while Mardy Simon gained 139 yards and two TDs on 10 tries. Joe Fullwood added 61 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Adam Chase completed 4 of 9 passes for 82 yards.

Orono led 14-0 at halftime on TD runs by Nazmy and Fullwood, then broke the game open with 19 unanswered points in the third quarter, as Nazmy scored on a 36-yard run and Simon added TD runs of 27 and 39 yards.

Mike Scott contributed a fourth-quarter touchdown on a 12-yard run.

Chad Sanborn paced the Red Riots’ defense with 12 tackles.
