Because of a computer glitch, some editions Thursday carried a brief story that originally ran in April about charges involving two Washington County men. While the original story was correct, charges against one of the men, Dennis Guptill, 59, of East Machias have been dropped since the news story appeared April 24. After “reviewing the evidence, the assistant district attorney did not authorize a complaint,” said Calais Police Chief Michael Milburn on Thursday. The NEWS regrets the error.
