In a caption accompanying a photograph of National Folk Festival activity published Aug. 26, the NEWS should have identified the individual who was asked by Bangor police officers “to stop playing his banjo and panhandling along Washington Street,” as Mark Finks of Falmouth. Finks was not arrested or charged in the incident, and maintains he was within his rights to be there. He said he was not panhandling, and that his performance was part of a street ministry that he has practiced for the past 20 years.

A brief item about a single-car crash in Sedgwick, published in the Aug. 30 State section contained incorrect information about the driver. James LaPlace was summoned on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, not arrested as stated in the brief. The incorrect information was provided by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
