Correcting the record

A story about the sentencing of Guy K. Maloon, 38, of Corinna in Saturday’s paper on Page C3 stated that his attorney told the court that Maloon’s daughter was in the hospital undergoing treatment for cancer. The girl’s mother, who asked not to be identified, said Monday that her daughter had completed treatment successfully, was not in the hospital at the time of Maloon’s sentencing and never had lived with her father.

Saturday’s story on The Sow’s Ear on Page B1 gave the wrong date for the opening of the popular Machias gift store. The store opened in July 1980.

The story on the state high school wrestling finals in Monday’s paper contained two errors. The Class B state wrestling champion at 152 pounds was Chris Smith of Mountain Valley in Rumford, and Josh Lasselle of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield was the winner at 171 pounds.

Jay Geller is an attorney representing the unsecured creditors’ committee in the Great Northern Paper Inc. bankruptcy case. His name was misspelled in a Page One story Feb. 6.
