Clarification: A story by the Boston University Washington News Service published Friday about a welfare reform bill passed by the U.S. House needs some clarification. Last year, Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine helped create a tripartisan version that differed from a similar House bill by adding substantial increases in funding for child care and more flexibility for states. The Snowe measure made it out of committee, but died because it was never scheduled for a full Senate vote. Snowe’s spokesman, Dave Lackey, said Friday the senator will continue to work toward welfare reauthorization this session, using a similar approach when the issue reaches the Senate later this year.
