An article about the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-imposed 7.5 percent wage reduction at Eastern Pulp and Paper Co.’s two mills in Lincoln and Brewer may have left the impression that the union was satisfied with the pay cuts. It was not, and in early June voted down Eastern’s two requests to cut wages. The Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union, located at both mills, only is satisfied that the judge allowed for a review of the wage reduction at a later date and then possibly a return to current pay levels, according to international representative Duane Lugdon.
