A story printed in Monday’s paper incorrectly identified the late Otis LaBree as the first motorcycle patrolman with the Maine State Police. The state police agency was established in 1925 with 40 motorcycle patrolmen assigned throughout the state. According to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, automobiles were not provided to state troopers until 1936.
