An article published on the front page Saturday about Maine’s congressional delegation being divided on the Medicare bill incorrectly stated that U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe served on the conference committee that tried to hammer out a compromise package.

A story that ran on Page B7 of the Nov. 14 edition about the result of a jury trial in federal court stated incorrectly that defendant Jeffrey Paul Barnard, 40, of Millinocket had four prior convictions for possession of a firearm by a felon. Barnard, found guilty on Nov. 13 of possession of a firearm by a felon, has three previous felony convictions – two in California for trespass and possession of a firearm by a felon and one in Maine for assault on a police officer.

The credit for a photo on the Outdoors page in Saturday’s NEWS was incorrect. The photo was taken by Karen Francoeur.
