Reports of communications between Gov. John Baldacci’s office, including those of chief legal counsel Kurt Adams and U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge James B. Haines regarding the Eastern Fine Paper bankruptcy proceedings require additional information. Lee Umphrey, the governor’s spokesman, indicated in a written statement Thursday: “Kurt Adams is the Chief Legal Counsel for Governor Baldacci. Governor Baldacci is not a party to the Eastern Fine bankruptcy court case. Kurt Adams has not appeared in the case for Governor Baldacci and has not filed papers for Governor Baldacci. Kurt Adams has had no ex parte communication with Judge Haines.” The subject appeared in a Page One story on the mills Wednesday.
