Correcting the record

An item in the “From Police Files” column published on Saturday, May 29, said that Daniel Asselin, 36, of Bangor had been convicted of manslaughter in 1996. Though Asselin initially was charged with manslaughter, he pleaded guilty to aggravated drunken driving and was sentenced to four years in prison.

A chart accompanying the Kids Count story that began on Page One on Thursday contained erroneous information. All of the numbers were listed as percentages; however, four categories were not supposed to be listed as such: infant mortality rate, child death rate, rate of teen deaths by accident, homicide and suicide, and teen birth rate. The numbers listed, minus the percent symbol, in those categories are correct.
