An incorrect date was listed in Thursday’s Calendar for the opening reception for “A Common Thread: Innovative Textile Art of Maine,” to be held at Turtle Gallery, 61 North Deer Isle Road in Deer Isle. The event will be held 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5.

A story published in Tuesday’s State section included an incorrect date related to the New England cottontail potentially being given federal protections. While the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service could choose a course of action as early as this fall, the actual proposal to list the species as threatened or endangered would not be published before spring 2005.

In a Sept. 1 story about germs playing a possible role in sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, The Associated Press erroneously reported a finding by Dr. Fern Hauck in a Chicago study in the mid-1990s. Infections were found to be the cause of death in 10 percent of sudden, unexpected infant deaths, not 10 percent of SIDS victims.

The Brewer High School golf team was listed incorrectly as the winner of the 2003 Penobscot Valley Conference championship in a Thursday sports story. Bangor High School won the championship.
