Correcting the record

A Newspapers in Education special series titled “It’s Maine Government and History Week” on Page C8 contained an error on April 26 in the Pieces of Maine History timeline provided by the Maine Historical Society. The Aroostook War was not declared by the state of Maine.

Text accompanying a map of Spain in Wednesday’s World of Wonder feature on Page C10, presented by Newspapers in Education, contained an error. Andalusia is one of 17 autonomous regions in Spain, and contains eight of the country’s 50 provinces.

A story in Saturday’s editions mischaracterized the status of the whooping crane. The bird is very rare and has disappeared from some regions. It is protected by the federal Endangered Species Act.

In an April 22 story about the Top of Maine Trade Show at Madawaska, the incorrect company was attributed with heating the building. Dead River Co. has donated the heat for the annual show each year since it started.

The name of the Ellsworth school where a new fifth-grade teacher will be working was reported incorrectly in an article in Thursday’s paper. Richelle Downs will teach at the Moore School.
