Correcting the record

A story in Tuesday’s Final Edition about the proposed SAD 23 school budget needs clarification. In addition to the local allocations listed for Carmel and Levant, taxpayers in both towns will be asked to contribute money for adult education and other costs. The total to be collected from taxes in Carmel is $1,155,254; in Levant, it is $952,055.

A story published in the May 13 Final Edition about a joint meeting between the Brewer school committee and City Council dealing with local budgets incorrectly stated the projected amount the district expects to spend on out-of-district placements. The article should have said $302,850 is expected to be spent in 2005-06. To clarify another school budget figure printed incorrectly in the May 24 [May 25] correction section, the state subsidy for the upcoming year is $5,616,801 an increase of $1,345,248 or 31.5 percent.

A story on Page One of The Weekly in today’s Final Edition contains an error. The Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby will be held Saturday, June 4, on Buck Street in Bangor.

A story that appeared on Page B2 in Wednesday’s paper about funding for infrastructure improvements in Winter Harbor requires clarification. Town officials may decide to pay the debt service for the repairs using the interest generated from an investment fund established with proceeds from sales of former Navy housing, not with the proceeds themselves.
