Correcting the record

A clinical and consulting psychologist presented outdated information when she testified Aug. 11 to a legislative committee about the percentage of sexual offenses that go unreported nationwide. She was quoted the next day in a Capitol News Service story published on the front page of the State section. In a correction of her testimony recently e-mailed to the BDN, Dr. Sue Righthand wrote that “as many as 84 percent of individuals and as many as 86 percent of adolescents (not 95 percent) did not report they had been sexually abused.”

A story in Monday’s State section about a program run by Rockland’s Youthlinks incorrectly reported that the Maine Community Foundation will fund the Partners in Philanthropy program this year. In fact, the three-year funding concluded in June, and Youthlinks is seeking private funding to continue the program.
