VIENNA, Austria – In an obituary for Dr. Heinrich Gross on Page B8 of the Dec. 30 paper, The Associated Press erroneously reported that 75,000 people were killed in Nazi-era euthanasia programs across Europe, based on past estimates by scholars. A more accurate estimate is around 275,000 victims, according to the U.S. Holocaust Museum and other sources. Also, the story incorrectly gave the first name of the German medical historian and ethicist who researched Gross’ involvement in Nazi euthanasia. His name is Matthias Dahl, not Mathias.
