Clarification: U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ office wants to clarify statements attributed to her in an article published on Page A5 in Thursday’s editions. Collins is pushing for a competitive grant program enabling all ports to apply for federal funding with the Department of Homeland Security deciding which ports receive funds. Also, Collins’ GreenLane Maritime Cargo Security Act would require, by the end of next year, all shipping containers to be scanned for radioactive materials. It would not mandate that all containers be physically inspected.
