A quotation in a story on Page 1 in Wednesday’s paper about disability ratings for veterans of the U.S. military gave incomplete information about who can represent veterans with disability claims. “The department service officer is the only person legally able to represent a veteran and present a [disability] claim to the VA,” James Bachelder, senior vice commander of the Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars, said in the article. In fact, accredited representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs and of a service organization may represent veterans with claims. Bachelder said the Maine VFW has two such accredited people: Rene Deschene and Kathleen Gagnon-Rood.
A sports photo on page C1 in Tuesday’s paper had the players reversed. The caption should have stated that John Bapst’s Becca Ogden was on the left and teammate Lacie Harvey was on the right.
