Correcting the record

A story in Wednesday’s paper about the House’s approval of changes to the Maine school consolidation law contained a reporting error. An amendment to the bill which would have allowed a delay in the required budget validation vote was removed earlier by a Committee on Conference. The bill passed by the House does not delay the budget validation requirement.

The captions for two pictures drawn by second-graders in the Newspapers In Education segment on page A2 in Tuesday’s paper were transposed. The caption for Erin Fitzgerald’s picture is “I want to be a florist because a florist owns a flower shop. I like flowers because they’re pretty and colorful. I used to have a back yard FULL of dandelions.” The caption for Leah Kirshman’s picture is “I would like to work at Machias Savings Bank. Machias Savings Bank is fun to be at.”

In an article about SAD 63’s budget Wednesday on Page B3, the date for a coming budget and finance committee meeting was incorrect. The committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. April 2 and April 9 at Holbrook Middle School.

An article on Page A1 of Wednesday’s paper contained an error regarding Maine officials’ plans to request federal emergency assistance for Aroostook County. The assistance, if granted, would apply only to the recent blizzard in Aroostook County. Snow emergency assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is geared toward specific events, not an entire season.
