An announcement about the Shirley Community Church’s annual maple syrup brunch on Page B2 in Friday’s paper listed the wrong day for the event. It will be Sunday, April 6.
A story on Page B1 of Monday’s paper in the Women in History series contained an error. Clara Hapgood Nash of Washington County was the first woman admitted to the bar in New England in 1872, only the second one in the nation. She was admitted to the bar by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Nash learned law under her husband who was a lawyer and practiced with him from his law office in Washington County. Helen Augusta Knowlton was the second Maine woman to be allowed in the bar, but she was the first woman to have her own law office independent of a man’s practice.
