Correcting the record

A story on Page A1 of the Aug. 23-24 paper about the medical practice of Dr. Charles Burger incorrectly stated that Dr. Lawrence Weed practiced at the PROMIS clinic in Hampden. In the late 1950s, Weed came from Yale University to what was then Eastern Maine General Hospital to be the director of the new medical internship and residency program there. Dr. Harold Cross, a medical student from Yale, was the first intern in the new program, and when he finished his training he established the PROMIS Clinic in Hampden.

A story on Page A1 of the Aug. 19 paper about the difficulty of finding nursing home placement for elderly individuals with dementia incorrectly stated that a new medical unit for patients with aggressive behavior, currently in the planning phase at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, would be a locked unit. The new six-bed unit will not be locked, hospital officials said this week.
