In a Page A1 story Friday about U.S. diabetes rates, The Associated Press erroneously said that with Type 2, diabetics do not produce or use insulin, a hormone needed to convert sugar into energy. The correct explanation is that in Type 2 diabetes, cells do not use insulin properly and the pancreas gradually loses its ability to produce it.
