Correcting the record

In a story published March 27 on Page B8, The Associated Press quoted a Plymouth State University assistant meteorology professor agreeing with another meteorologist that New England could experience a major hurricane this year. The story should have elaborated on the position of the assistant professor, Lourdes Aviles. She said that while forecasts indicate above-average hurricane activity for the entire Atlantic region this year, this does not mean a major hurricane is more likely to affect the Northeast this year than any other year; the last one was many years ago.
