A story on Page A1 about publicly owned vehicles in Maine that ran Sept. 13-14 contained incorrect information caused by an editing error. The $29.8 million statewide fleet budget figure for 2008 does not include the cost of personnel or heavy equipment, but does include the cost of purchasing 334 new vehicles.
In a story on Page A1 of Saturday’s paper in which U.S. Senate candidates Tom Allen and Susan Collins responded to questions on issues, The Associated Press erroneously attributed to Allen a comment by Collins on nuclear power. Allen did not comment on the nuclear issue, but later issued a statement saying he “has serious concerns about what we do with nuclear waste and believes we must deal with this issue before moving forward on nuclear expansion.” Collins responded to the question on nuclear power by stating: “I am open to considering nuclear energy, which currently supplies about 20 percent of our energy needs, as one of the options for achieving energy independence and lowering our greenhouse gas emissions. However, we must be careful in our approach and ensure the proper environmental safeguards and input from local communities.”
In two articles about the fiscal status of Red Shield Environmental LLC of Old Town that appeared in the Business section on Sept. 3 and Sept. 13, the bankruptcy judge was misidentified. He is Judge Louis Kornreich.
