Correcting the record

A photo caption accompanying an article published Wednesday on the State page about testing and cleanup efforts at the defunct New Franklin Laundry in Bangor was inaccurate. Officials with the federal Environmental Protection Agency have found no evidence of any recent hazardous chemical spills at the site. Rather, the regulators believe the contamination occurred slowly over a couple of decades before hazardous waste laws were enacted, when it was legal to dump excess dry cleaning chemicals on the ground.

Monday’s story on the Eastern Maine Class C wrestling championship listed the wrong seeding of Mike McNaughton of Foxcroft Academy. He was the No. 2 seed in the 119-pound class. Madawaska’s Craig Lizotte was 119’s No. 1 seed.

A story about combining emergency communication boards on page B2 in some editions Wednesday should have reported that Penobscot County Commissioner Tom Davis wanted to see information technology personnel come under the jurisdiction of the county.

A news item that appeared on page B2 in some editions Wednesday contained incorrect information about the preferred donation for a Meals for Me meal in Lincoln. The preferred donation is $2.50.
